DRA Develops Run/Walk Routes Downtown

RALEIGH, NC – Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA), in collaboration with Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources, invites the community to explore Downtown Raleigh and get outside with Downtown Raleigh Routes – one and three-mile run/walk routes beginning and ending in Moore Square.

Starting Saturday, March 27, sidewalk decals will mark the routes, and Moore Square will be home to a start-finish line photo op and a celebratory finisher's mural created by local artist Mayanthi Jayawardena.

“We are so excited to welcome warmer weather with the introduction of Downtown Raleigh Routes,” said David Moore, Placemaking and Activations Manager, DRA. “These routes are an accessible way to enjoy the outdoors, explore Downtown and appreciate all our Downtown has to offer.”

“Moore Square is the perfect start and finish location for Downtown Raleigh Routes,” said Jenna Kostka, Moore Square Director. “The green oasis in the middle of downtown offers a perfect place to stretch out before and after your run/walk. Don’t forget to snap a celebratory photo!”

DRA is working with Downtown t-shirt maker House of Swank to produce a themed shirt for the routes. Participants will be able to win a t-shirt via a social media contest launching early April. Shirts will also be available for purchase through House of Swank.

DRA plans to develop additional self-guided routes in the coming months that help visitors navigate Downtown Raleigh’s long list of amenities and attractions.
